Quality of air
During 2007, the Company underwent a strategic move in which it converted the energy generation process at the Group’s Hadera site from the use of fuel oil to natural gas.
This was made possible after the Hadera facility had been linked to the natural gas pipe located west of Hadera in the Mediterranean Sea. Environmental quality considerations and air quality at the site and at the nearby city of Hadera were the guiding principle behind this step.
In accordance with the management’s plan, the national land planning program for natural gas conveyance was changed and an additional extension was added, linking the underwater pipeline and the coast of Hadera. At yearend 2004, the extension of the pipeline reached the coast of Hadera.
The conversion to natural gas has significantly improved the air quality breathed by the plant’s employees and by residents of Hadera while allowing Hadera Paper to meet stringent air emission standards.
